Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Check below to cover the common questions you might have about our practice.

Is Dr. Nita Chen only concierge?

Largely, yes. The great majority of our patients enroll in our concierge program. However, Dr. Chen does consult at the request of healthcare professionals within our network on insurance for general neurology and movement disorders. For movement disorder patients not coming from an in-network referral,
Dr. Chen can be available to do one meet and greet for more specific questions with regards to the practice and the concierge program.

-----

What is concierge care?

Concierge care is not universally defined within Concierge Medicine itself. For most programs, it involves easier access to the practice (but not always the physician). Our approach to concierge medicine (and neurology in particular) provides the unrestricted access desired by patients but also completely tailored care that is better experienced than described in written word. Dr. Chen’s meet and greet sessions can provide further information.

-----

What is a movement disorders specialist?

A movement disorders specialist (MDS) is a neurologist who has undergone extra fellowship training for complex conditions like Parkinson’s, tremor, and dystonia.

-----

Why should I see a movement disorder neurologist?

A: Movement disorders are a life-long and life-changing diagnosis! They require very careful long-term treatment and unique attention to ensure they don’t disrupt your quality and length of life or become a burden to your loved ones.

B: Studies have repeatedly shown that patients cared for by a movement disorder neurologist have more accurate diagnoses and have better quality of life, symptom control, and mood! Having a neurologist specifically trained in movement disorders also gives you access to information on the most updated research and treatment options.

C: For patients without movement disorders, we have trained in general neurology prior to receiving our specialized training for our chosen subspecialty.  We believe in utilizing every portion of our training and staying the most up to date in our respective fields

D: We are familiar with and can manage a collection of neurological conditions not under the movement umbrella. Please give us a call if you are interested in being seen for your neurologic needs.

-----

Do I have to see the other doctors or healthcare professionals in your facility?

Absolutely not. If you come to us for neurologic care and you are happy with your other specialists and healthcare providers, we will partner with them to improve your care neurologically. We are happy to meet and collaborate with other healthcare professionals this way. Some of our best working relationships are the result of our mutual patients connecting us.

-----

What are your fees?

As a division of Newport Concierge Physicians, our fees follow the parent company pricing structure. Please keep in mind, we do offer custom plans which are tailored to fit even more unique individual needs. If you are in doubt, please call us for a consultation.

-----

What insurances do you take?

By and large, we are in network with Medicare, Medicare Advantage PPOs, and commercial PPO plans. We are also in network with some commercial HMO plans as well due to contract negotiations. However, the insurance industry can be confusing. The best way to check eligibility is to chat with us. Our practice coordinators can run an eligibility check to clear all doubt prior to your visit or enrollment.

-----

Do you provide other services like EMG or Botox?

Dr. Chen is trained in these modalities and is able to provide these services. We are in the planning stages for these services as of now.

-----

Are there any other neurologists available in your office?

Currently, Dr. Chen is the only neurologist available at this time. Neurologists are a rare find, making up less than 2% of all physicians in the United States. Moreover, it is estimated that there are only 660 movement disorders specialists within that 2%. In summary, movement disorders are a highly specialized field, making up a small, but vital, percentage of the broader neurology field, with far fewer specialists than needed. In addition, our rigorous standards for physician recruitment ensure quality of the medical care but can make recruitment slightly slower.

-----

Are you associated with any hospitals?

Dr. Chen keeps attending privileges at a limited number of local hospitals so she can admit and care for her patients when they need inpatient care. In addition, our physician team includes in-house hospitalists ready to serve as the attending physician for Dr. Chen’s patients at hospitals where she does not keep attending privileges.

However, she is not directly affiliated with hospitals in the sense that she does not influence outside hospitals and they do not influence her.
